=Biography=
Was born in 820.

==Work Activity==
*In 869 in the joint council of the Armenian princes and high priests, Ashot Bagratuni was proclaimed the Armenian King.
*In 875 revealing the conspiracy prepared by Arab policeman Ahmed against him and the great Armenian trouts, Ashot Bagratuni arrested him, disarmed the Arab army and expelled them from the country.
*Armenia, which had declared its independence and maintained military-political aspirations, also attracted the attention of the Byzantine Empire. The founder of the Macedonian (Armenian) imperial family, Vasil I (867-886), was one of the first to try to win the armament of Ashot Bagratouni against the Caliphate. Ashot Bagratuni, establishing friendly relations with Vasil I, however, maintained neutrality among the conflicting sides. In 885 Caliph Mutawakkil, for the sake of preventing the Armenian-Byzantine rapprochement and for winning Ashot Bagratouni's reliance, recognized him as "the king of [[Armenia]] and Georgia". The throne of the Armenian king was also recognized by the emperor [[Vasil I]].
*The jurisdiction of the newly established and internationally recognized kingdom of Bagratuni was extended to the majority of Armenia, except for some western "worlds" (Armenia Minor, Higher Armenia, Tsopk) joined to Byzantine and southern provinces attached to the Caliphate.
During the reign of Ashot I Bagratuni (885-890), the borders of the Armenian state included the majority of Kortshaik and Aghdznik to Zazira in the South, reached Atropatene in the South-East, Partav in the East, Tsopk and Higher Armenia in the West, the Yegerats lands in the North-West, the Greater Caucasus mountain range and Alanats gates in the North, confirmed by Armenian and Arabic historians. The Georgian dethroned trout Atrnerseh Bagratuni and the Armenian king of the Estern Sides (Artsakh, Utik) Hamam Bagratuni were also subjected to the domination of Ashot Bagratuni.
*In 887 Ashot I, concerned on strengthening the northern borders of the Armenian and Georgian united kingdom, drove up to the Greater Caucasus mountain range, depressed the local irreconcilable tribes, and forced the King of the Yegerats lands to adopt his domination.
*The son of the king Ashot I, the prince of princes Smbat, repressed the disobedient princes of Gugark and Utik and subjected them to the throne of Bagratuni with the force of the arm. Thence Ashot I engaged in the development of the capital city of [[Bagaran]], improving the country's defense system and strengthening the army (40 thousand horsemen), leaving his son Smbat a stable and rapidly developing kingdom.
