=Biography=
Was born on November 10(22), 1873 in [[Akhaltsikhe]], [[Georgia]]. Died on February 4, 1952 in [[Yerevan]], [[Republic of Armenia]].
==Education==
*1880-1883 received initial education in Karapetyan college, [[Akhaltsikhe]]. *1883-1993 studied at The First Classical Gymnasium in [[Tbilisi]]. *1893-1897 studied at the universities of [[Jena]], [[Leipzig ]] and [[Strasbourg]].
*In 1898 graduated from the Faculty of Oriental Languages ​​at St. Petersburg University.
*In 1909 graduated from the University of Dorpat.
==Work activity==
*1900-1905 lectured at the Etchmiadzin [[Gevorgyan Seminary]], Etchmiadzin. *1905-1907 lectured at the first and second male gymnasiums in [[Tbilisi]]. *1906-1907 lectured at the [[Nersisyan school]].
*1911-1913 lectured at the National University of Baku.
*1915-1919 lectured at the trade school.
*Since 1919 December, acting dean of the Faculty of Historical Linguistics, [[YSU]]. *1921-1922, [[YSU ]] rector. *1921-1923 Dean of the [[YSU ]] Oriental and Historiographical faculties. *1921-1925 Head of the [[YSU ]] Department of Armenian history.
*1925-1931 Professor of the Department.
===YSU rector===
*In 1920 December 17 "Order about restructuring Yerevan University" by [[Hovhannisyan Ashot Hovhannisyan ]] was published, according to which, the university was restructured and renamed [[Yerevan National University]], former departments were closed and new ones were opened - natural sciences and social sciences faculties. The professorial staff fully released, under Koghbetlyantsi's presidency, who later became the disposer of university's fate, the restructuring committee of the university was created.Accordingly, the old plan and the regulations of the university was were rejected and a new one was created, which strictly matched the programs created for universities of [[Russia]].*In 1921 January 2 in the first university council session by a closed(secret) voting The Social Sciences Faculty dean was chosen [[Tigranyan Sirekan Tigranyan ]] and The Natural Sciences Faculty dean was chosen [[Zavryan Davit Zavryan]].In the same session [[Manandyan Hakob Manandyan ]] was chosen a rector.*In 1923 January 23 in the laborers' club hall the national university's reopening took place, where there were present not only students but also many official guests and different public representatives.The session was opened by Manandyan.Then the speech was given to Ash. Hovhannisyan, who, highlighting the university's role for the republician life, particularly focused on independent practical organization of students' work.At the end of the session, expressing heartful thanks for orators' wishes, the rector also hoped that the news of university's reconstruction would impetus armenian intellectuals' diaspora to return homeland and to serve the nation's scientific needs.Then The Social Sciences Faculty lecturer [[Chubaryan Grigor Chubaryan ]] read his first lecture "The soviet law and the national university of Armenia".
*Since 1921 January 24, the university classes have began.
*Some time later the number of faculties expanded.Five faculties began operating instead of two - Oriental Sciences (dean [[Manandyan Hakob Manandyan]]), Natural and Technical Sciences (dean Daviy ZavryanDavid), Pedagogic ([[Edilyan Gurgen Edilyan]]) and Soviet Construction ([[Ghananjyan Gevorg Ghananjyan]]) faculties.*In 1921 November on the basis of the Natural Sciences Faculty the Agricultural faculty was opened (dean Q[[alantanyan Papa Qalantanyan]]).*Hakob Manandyan invited lecturers from [[Moscow]], [[Petersburg]], [[Tbilisi ]] and other places, enriched the library, solved the books' problem and after all exempted from the duites of rector and remained as a dean of Orienatl Studies Faculty.

*In 1935, [[ASSR ]] honored figure of science.
*In 1938, Doctor of Historical Sciences.
*In 1939, [[ASSR ]] academician.
==Other==
*[[YSU ]] first lecturer of The Hisotry of Ancient and Medieval Armenian people.
*In 1931 interrupted pedagogical work and started to deal only with scientific activities.
*Author of more than 150 armenian, russian and german works devoted to The History and Philology of Ancient and Medieval Armenia, historcal geography, metrology and culture.
*Explored the armenian translations of Greek philosophical works and the philosophical heritage of Davit [[David the Invincible]].*Concluded that [[Mesrop Mashtots ]] created the alphabet during 392-393.*Founder of modern Armenian history and one of those who dealt with the socio-economic survey of [[Armenia]].
*He was a true democrat.Beside philology and history, Manandyan got interested in law as well.In 1909 departed to the University of Tartu, took extern exams and received a first-class diploma of sworn attorney.
