*Since 1020 was the king of Armenia.

*Succeeded his father [[Gagik I]] who gave the power to his sons, [[Hovhannes-Smbat]] and Ashot IV. In the long fight with his brother for inheriting the throne, Ashot IV was eventually recognized as the King of [[Armenia]] in "Druts World" (part of [[Gugark]], [[Gegharkunik]], etc.), with the condition of uniting the country under his rule after his death.
*Maintained peaceful relationships with the Arab Caliphate and Byzantine. As a result of fierce fights against neighboring Muslim Amiras, expanded and strengthened his power.
*Is buried in [[Ani]], in the Bagratunyats royal mausoleum.
