Was born on June 17 (29), 1817 in Theodosia, Crimea in a poor Armenian family.
==Education==
*Studied at Armenian parish school of Theodosia.
*In 1830-1833 studied at Russian Gymnasium of Simferopol.
*In 1833-1837 studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Saint Petersburg.
==Work Activity==
*In 1844 was appointed as a painter at the Marine General Staff in Russia.
*In 1869 opened the first exhibition in the Armenian reality in Tiflis.
*In 1880 founded a gallery in Crimea.
*In 1865 established a school of Fine Arts in Crimea.

*In 1844 became an academician of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts.
*In 1847 became a professor of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts.
*In 1857 was awarded the order Legion of Honor in Paris.
*In 1887 became an honored member of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts.
*Was a member of the academies of Fine Arts of Rome, Florence, Stuttgart, Amsterdam, the Russian geographic company.
