Biography

Was born on November 16, 1939 in the Yerevan city of Soviet Armenia.

Education

  • 1964-1969 studied at the Creative Department of Yerevan State Conservatory named after Komitas.

Work activity

  • Since 1969 teaches theoretical subjects at the Conservatory.
  • Is the head of the Department of Music Theory at the Conservatory.
  • 1991-2013 was the president of the Armenian Composers' Union .

Achievements

  • In 1969 the first Prize (for "To Komitas" (Կոմիտասին) song, Beirut, Lebanon).
  • In 1973 "Best Song" prize (for the song "Where are you?, boys" (Ո՞ւր եք, տղաներ) Berlin, Germany).
  • In 1975 the third prize (for the "Autumn melody" (Աշնան մեղեդի), Sopot Contest).
  • In 1978 "Best Song of the Year", ("With your eyes" (Քո աչերի հետ), Moscow, USSR).
  • In 1988 The third prize (for song "Song also has a soul" (Երգն էլ ունի հոգի), Belgrade, Serbia)
  • In 1983 the first prize (for song "Ելեք", Sochi, USSR)
  • In 1998 "St. Mesrop Mashtots" order.
  • In 2010 "Russian Federation Star" Award.
  • In 2011 Armenian State Prize.
  • People's artist of the Republic of Armenia.

Other

  • He is the author of over 300 songs and vocal series.
