During the reign of Bagratuni and Zakarian dynasty the number of population of Kars passed 50.000, which was, by then, a huge number for the city population.
  • According to the historians, Abas abolished brigandage in his country, which had reached such an extent that people were not the owners of their property. He was strictly punishing and destroying the criminals providing the peaceful and quiet life of the country. Abas paid special attention to the military forces and brought in special red-coloured military uniforms. With his army Abas participated in Armenian-Georgian combined military invasions against Arabs in Southern Armenia (994). The situation of the Kingdom of Kars became unsteady during the bloody wars between the Bagratids of Byzantine and Georgia: the reason was the argument about the heritage of David Kyureghapat. During that time the territory of the Kingdom of Kars became a battlefield for fighting sides.
