Died in 826.
Work Activity
- Since 790 was an Armenian lord (officially since 804).
- Taking advantage of the breakdown of Kamsarakan and Mamikonyan houses extended the Bagratunis' manors (Shirak, Arsharunik, Taron), transferred the residence from Daruynk to Bagaran.
- In order to avoid the Arab threat, helped the Gnunis, tranferred them from Aghiovit to Tayk.
- Appointed his brother Shapuh Bagratuni the military leader of the Armenian army, made close family tighs with the house of Artsruni.
- Taking advantage of the unstable state of the Arab Caliphate ruled independently which made historian Michael Asori think him to be the first Bagratuni king.
Other
- Is the son of Smbat Bagratuni.
- According to Nikoghayos Adonts, he was nicknamed "The Meat Eater" for not keeping a Lent.
- The success of Ashot the Meat Eater contributed to the further strengthening and uplift of the Bagratunians.
