  • The son of Smbat I. Succeeded his elder brother Ashot "Yerkat" II.
  • As a constable his seat was in Kars.
  • His capital was based at the fortress-city of Kars.
  • He founded St. Araqeloc monastery (still standing).
  • In 948 he moved the seat of the catholicos of all Armenians from Aghtamar to Argina.
  • Counterattacked the arab invaders, confronted the invasions by The Kingdom of Abkhazia to Kartli (Easters Georgia) which was under Armenian rule, guarded the gate of Alans (now Darial Gorge) with his army.
