  • In 1943 graduated from Bryn Mawr College and got a Bachelor's degree.
  • In 1946 graduated from Columbia University and got a Master's degree.

  • The head of the department of Armenology and history of Byzantium in Columbia University (USA).
  • The dean of High school of Princeton University.
  • A trustee of Ford foundation (two times).
  • The head of "Revue des Études Arméniennes" in Paris.

Achievements

  • In 1958-Doctor of History .
  • Honorary Professor of Columbia University.
  • Member of The Medieval Academy of America.
  • Member of British Academy.
  • «Անանիա Շիրակացի» ("Anania Shirakatsi") medal
  • «Մեսրոպ Մաշտոց» ("Mesrop Mashtots") medal
