Biography

Was born on October 13, 1946 in the village of Koghb, Tavush province, Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic.

Education

  • In 1964 finished the secondary school of Koghb.
  • In 1968 graduated from Yerevan State University, the faculty of philology.

Work activity

  • Worked at several periodicals, simultaneously worked as an editor for the newspaper "Pedagogue".
  • Since 1975 worked at "Spring" («Գարուն») magazine.
    • 1990-2001- senior editor.
  • 2001-2013- the president of the Writers' Union of Armenia.
  • 2002-2013- the head of "Noyemberyan" social organization.
  • Was a lecturer at Yerevan State University, faculty of journalism.

Achievements

  • In 1983- "Golden pen" prize of Journalists' Union of Armenia.
  • In 2000- Golden medal of Fridtjof Nansen.
  • In 2005- "Muratsan" prize of Republic of Artsakh.
  • In 2005- "Master" badge of honour.
  • In 2005- Medal of Vachagan Barepasht.
  • In 2006- Medal for literary earnings by the Writers' Union of Armenia.
  • In 2006- Silver medal of Armenian congress.
  • In 2006- Medal of Hakob Meghapart.
  • In 2006- Medal of Ministry of culture of Armenia.
  • In 2006- Order of St. Mesrop Mashtots.
  • In 2008- Honorary Worker of Culture of the Republic of Armenia.
  • Member of three international academies.
