Biography
Was born on November 17, 1883 in Tiflis, Georgia.
Education
- Studied at Nersisyan School in Tiflis.
- Was a student of Makar Yekmalyan.
- 1907-1911 studied at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory.
- 1925-1930 studied at the Moscow Conservatory.
Work activity
- Worked as a musician-pedagogue.
- 1934-1939 was the head of the Armenian Composers' Union.

Achievements
- In 1917 member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
- In 1939 honored art figure of the USSR.

- He is the son of Ghazaros Aghayan
- Since 1930 lived in Yerevan.
- He has compiled and published the collections of songs of Sayat-Nova (1946), Jivani (1955) and Sheram (1959) with Talyan. Compiled the second book of Komitas's "Ethnographic Collection" (1950), edited Spiridon Melikyan's 1st and 2nd volumes of the collection "Armenian folk songs and dances" (1949, 1952).
- He wrote songs, romances, chorus, folk and gusan songs.
- Had concerts in Yerevan, Tiflis and Moscow.
