Was born on December 20, 1922 in Tiflis, Georgia.

Education

  • In 1953 graduated from Russian State Institute of Performing Arts.

Work activity

  • Since 1953 taught at the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts.
    • 1975-1985-head of Department.
  • 1961-1966 worked at the Leningrad Dramatic Theater as a director.
  • Since 1966 the chief director of the theater named after Komissarzhevskaya.

  • In 1975 Professor of the Leningrad Theater Institute.
  • In 1983 People's Artist of the USSR.
  • In 1984 USSR State Prize (For the performance of Bulgakov's "King Boris").
  • In 1990 received Order of Lenin.
  • Second degree Medal of Patriotic War.
  • "Honor Sign" Medal.
