Biography
Was born on April 13(25), 1849 in the village of Vardablur (today in Lori province), Armenia.
Education
- Studied at Nersisian school.
- At the faculty of Chemistry of the university of Heidelberg his professors were R. Banzeni, G. Kirchhoff, H. helmholtz, at the same time he attended lectures in the departments of philosophy, logic, and psychology.
- In 1872 graduated from the university of Zurich.
Work activity
- 1877-1884 state chemist of Zurich.
- 1884-1921 professor at the university of Zurich.
- The president of the Armenian community of Zurich.
Achievements
- In 1884-Professor.
- A member of the German company.
Other
- His works refer to the problems of Analytical chemistry: Carbohydrates, nutrients, etc.
- Studied the movement of ignition of oil, created a device for measuring its temperature which was called after his name.
- In 1896 came to Armenia for scientific purposes, climbed Mount Ararat, and wrote about his impressions in European newspapers.
