Biography

Was born on January 13, 1909 in Vagharshapat,Armenia.

Education

In 1922-1927 studied at Industrial Technical School of Fine Arts(teachers-Stepan Aghajanyan,Sedrak Araqelyan).
In 1927-1930 studied at Vkhutemas in Moscow(teachers-Sergey Gerasimov,A. Drevnin,Nadezhda Udaltsova).
In 1930-1931 studied at Imperial Academy of Arts in Sankt Petersburg(teacher-Alexander Osmerkin).

In 1937-1945 worked at Yerevan State College of Arts as a teacher.
In 1954-1959 worked at Yerevan Institute of Fine Arts (now the State Institute of Theater and Cinema) Educational Theater as a teacher.
In 1939-1945,1967-1968 was the president of the Artist's Union of Armenia.

EXHIBITIONS

Manuk Abeghyan's son and Suren Abeghyan's brother.
In 1990 the Museum of Mher Abeghyan was founded in Ejmiatsin which is one of the branches of National Gallery of Armenia.
Mher Abeghyan's realistic,original art was formed with the influence of the traditions of national printing especially of Martiros Saryan's art.Epic breath,vivid chromatic and light saturation are typical to his multigenre works.Monumentalism and expressiveness are seen in his graphical

linography.

In 1939 embroidered "Daredevils of Sassoun" epic poem.
Since 1940's has created various works of different genres;composite canvases,portraits,landscapes of Armenia,best of them are properties of the museums of Yerevan,Moscow,Sankt Petersburg.
Armenia with its nature,people and goods occupies a special place in Abeghyan's art.His landscapes stand out with their bright colour,still lifes stand out with plastic tactile and highlighted colours.In his graphic works he depicted Armenia with thematic broad coverage.He is the auther of etching,needleworks and so on.
