Biography
Was born on May 1, 1788 in Hertza, Bukovina.
Died on November 12, 1869 in Yassi, Romania.
Education
- 1769-1804 studied in Lvov, then in Vienna and in Italy.
Work activity
- He established the first national school and architectural collage in Moldova.
- In 1816 he organized first Romanian theatrical performances.
- In 1835 he established the Academy of Philosophy, Law and Theology.
- In 1835 he established Albina printing house.
- In 1836 he established a Dramatic Musical school in Yassi.
- He wrote plays and he was fond of painting.
Achievements
- Doctor of Philosophy.
Other
- His poems, parables, historical novels play a significant role in rhe history of Romanian and Moldovan literature.
- He published his reported journals and scientific papers (Gazette de Moldova, Albina Romeneask) in his Albina publishing house. He enlightened armenian cultural problems, published examples from Armenian literature in them.
- He made French-Romanian encyclopedia.
- In 1890 a statue was placed in honour of him in Yassi.
