Biography

Was born on November 30, 1947 in Vaghoudi village in the Sisian region.

Education

• In 1970 graduated from Yerevan State University.
• In 1971 finished the counterintelligence courses in Minsk.
• In 1978 graduated from the KGB's Institute in Moscow.
• In 1998 and in 2000 was a listener in the European Center for Security Studies named after J. Marshal (Germany),and in 2002-a listener in the Management college courses named after J. Kennedy of Harvard University (USA).

Work activity

• 1970-1972 served in the Soviet Armed Forces.
• 1973-1980 worked for the Soviet intelligence system.
• 1980-1983 was detached to the Islamic Republic of Iran by the USSR Embassy.
• 1983–1986- was the Vice Consul in Afghanistan.
• 1992–1995 was the chief of the Intelligence Department of the Armenian Armed forces general staff.
• Since 1995 Azoyan Basentsi served in the Armenian Armed Forces.

Achievements

• In 2002 was awarded the title of Major-general.
• He was awarded with the 1st and 2nd degrees of the "Military Service", "Marshal Baghramyan", "Andranik Ozanyan", "Garegin Nzhdeh", the order for Strengthening Partnership and the order for Irreproachable Service and as well as with the USSR medals and orders.

Other

• Died at the age of 59 on June 12, 2006 and was buried at the Yerablur pantheon.
• Major-General Azoyan was married and had two children.
• There is a restaurant, a hotel and a street named after him in Sisian.
• His brother was Azoyan Hovik.
