Biography

Was born on June 6, 1820 in Constantinople, Ottoman Empire. He did a lot of translations. Alishan was one of the first ethnologist-researchers and adjusters of Armenian folklore.

Education

  • 1830-1832 studied at the V. Chalekhyan college.
  • 1832-1841 studied at the Mkhitaryan School in Venice.

Work activity

  • 1841-1850 taught at Raphaelyan college in Venice.
  • Since 1848 worked as an inspector at the Muratyan College in Paris.
  • 1849-1851 worked as an editor for "Bazmavep" magazine.
  • 1859-1861 taught at the Muratyan college.
  • In 1870 was the vicar of Mkhitaryan Unity.

Achievements

  • In 1866 became a laureate of the Order of the Legion of Honour.
  • In 1887 became an honoured member of the Asian company in Italy.
  • In 1896 bacame an honoured member of Venice Academy.
  • In 1897 became an honoured member of Aisne philosophical Academy.
