Biography

Was born on September 26, 1872 in Van, Western Armenia.

Education

• In 1890 entered the College of Arts in Constantinople.
• 1894-1912 was in the studios of Kovalevsky, Franz Roubaud, Repin.
• 1899-1912 studied in the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg.

Work activity

• 1912-1915 taught at the Central College in Van.
• 1915-1918 worked at Gayanyan School in Tiflis.
• 1921-1929 taught at the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts.

Other

• He is a master of miniature landscapes and still lifes.
• In 1911 his works were shown in London for the first time in the exhibition of Russian artists
• He often presented cartoons in the periodicals of Yerevan and designed a number of books.
• Most of his works are kept in the National Gallery of Armenia.
