Biography

Was born on August 28, 1911 in Elisabethpol, Azerbaijan (now Ganja).

Education

  • In 1955 finished the Higher Party School near the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

  • Since 1936 worked in USSR intelligence.

Other

  • His father was Aghayan Ivan (1868-1936), his mother was Aghayan Anna (1879-1955). There were 9 children in the family.
  • Aghayants' elder brothers Alexander and Michael actively participated in the political life of Transcaucasia during the post-revolutionary years. Not only did they quickly adopt the Soviet power, but also began to actively fight for his ideas, working in the All-Russian Joint Committee (All-Union State Political Administration). Their steps were an example for young Iván's future life.
  • After finishing the secondary school and economics, he worked in production, where he changed several professions, actively participating in Komsomol and Party works.
  • In 1930 Aghayants moved to Moscow after his elder brothers and began working as a Senior Officer for Combating Economic Diversion at the All-Union State Political Administration Office. 1931-1932 in the first service description, Aghayan is described as "an initiative, active and intelligent employee", "well-developed, honest, devoted, working". And in 1937, more unusual formulation - "Extremely honest worker".
  • In 1936 the young employee is transported to foreign intelligence system, and in 1937, is sent to France.
  • In 1937 scout Aghayants's "military baptism" takes place in Spain. After the collapse of the republican regime, he took part in the organization of the Spanish compartia leaders, Dolores Ibárruri and José Diasa, to move to the Soviet Union.
  • Since 1923, when a pioneer organization was established in Ganja, Aghayants became a pioneer and a part of the the pioneer ranks headed by his brother, Michael Aghayants.
