Biography

Was born on March 16, 1913 in Meghri, Armenia.

Education

  • In 1938 graduated from Yerevan State University.

Work activity

  • 1939-1992 worked at Yerevan State University as a lecturer.
  • 1947-1948 head of the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Enlightenment of ASSR.
  • 1948-1950 dean of the Faculty of Philology.
  • 1953-1956 YSU vice-rector on scientific works.
  • 1956-1985 was the Head of the Department of general Linguistics at the University.
  • 1968-1991 head of Armenian Studies Center.
  • 1986-1991 the chief editor of "Banber of the Yerevan University" journal.

Achievements

  • In 1942 Associate Professor of Philological Sciences.
  • In 1946 Professor of Philological Sciences.
  • In 1953 Associate member of the Armenian Soviet Academy of Sciences.
  • In 1982 Academician of the Academy of Sciences.
